Pot with or without a saucer?

This age-old question, a pot with or without a saucer, whether the holes should be in the pot or not, can cause many problems, especially for people who are just starting their adventure with plants.

There can be only one answer: it depends 😊. It is certain that in order for the plant to grow healthily, it needs a water drain.

Each plant, regardless of its requirements, needs proper drainage, which is an absolute basis for care. Flowers that stand in the water will rot, even those that need a lot of moisture. Therefore, to provide them with the best conditions, you need to let them drain water.

Double-lined pots

Currently, in our store, we have lots of pots with an inner insert, such an insert can be punctured, it is a great way to maintain a beautiful design and at the same time the functionality of the pot in one.

If we use the pot at home, it is not always necessary to drill a hole in the inner insert – it depends on whether we have a tendency to overflow the plants or not (I personally dry the plants – therefore I do not drill holes in the inserts).

The case looks different if we put the pot outside – drilling a hole and preferably several is a necessary procedure so that the plant is not flooded with too much water during rain – in the event of such an overflow, the roots will start to rot, and the plant will simply die – REMEMBER ALWAYS MAKE A HOLE – AND THE BEST MINIMUM 3 IN A POT AND INSERT USED OUTSIDE.

Flower pots with a saucer

This drainage can be introduced in many ways. The easiest one is definitely a pot with a saucer. Choosing one that already has it included; makes our work easier, because even if you overwater the flowers, the excess water will accumulate in the stand. If there is not too much of it, we can leave it, and the plant will take it over time or just throw it away. Thanks to this, the roots of the plants will not rot.

The choice of pots with saucers is really large. We can buy pots in many colours and shapes, with a saucer that is integrated – connected with latches or in a set but without integration. Pots with a stand usually already have holes in the bottom – you only need to plant a plant.

Holes in the pot

Of course, expanded clay, perlite and a suitable substrate are important for the drainage of flowers, but the holes in the pot seem to be the most important. If we do not use the simplest of methods, the specifics are useless to us. Plants in nature have soil into which water is drained and taken. This should be recreated at least to a small extent in our apartments.

If you choose a pot with a saucer, before planting the plant in it, check if it has holes in the bottom. If not, we can make them ourselves – it’s very simple. All you need is a drill hole by the driller. Then we put it on the saucer, and it’s ready.

Currently, there are pots on the market with integrated saucers, and there is no need to make holes yourself; everything is already included. However, if we choose a casing, we do not plant plants directly in it. It should be planted in a pot with holes and then placed in a casing. Then the casing will take over the function of the stand.
